Preparing students with vocational training and practical experience
Objective
The Open University at Reykjavík University offers a program of Preliminary Studies within the Department of Preliminary Studies. The main objective is to prepare students, who have a vocational training and/or sufficient practical experience in industry, with the knowledge and competency necessary for further studies at university level.
Curriculum
The teaching is planned as a modular system. Each subject is divided into modules of 3 (3,75 ECTS) credits. Each credit represents 20 lessons (4 a week), in addition to laboratory-hours in physics and chemistry, as well as final examinations. Each of the modular subjects is designed to be taken in sequence.
Completion of Program
Completion of studies in the Department of Preliminary Studies ((93 (116,25 ECTS) credits)) prepare the student in theoretical subjects for admittance to the University, specially the School of Science and Engineering.
Completion of 45 credits allows students to enter the studies of construction, electrical and mechanical technician studies.
