Course Description:

 

English for University Lecturers is a five-day intensive course aimed at academic staff who run courses in English.  The main aim of the course is increased fluency.  Participants work systematically on improving their pronunciation and oral communication skills in an academic environment.  Emphasis is placed on correct language use and increased vocabulary.  Participants complete various practical tasks relating to their work, for example, mini lectures and correcting of writing tasks.  The course also covers standard phrases for providing written feedback and giving presentations. Participants are introduced to the language of class debates, how to handle complaints, and how to deal difficult situations that demand firmness.  Basic telephone English and English for e-mail purposes also form part of the course. Participants receive individual feedback on their strengths and weaknesses in English and are provided with a bank of resources for future use.  The course provides participants with life-long strategies for English.

  

Teaching Methods:

 

·         Short lectures

·         Content-based learning through individual work and group work

·         Mini lectures by participants aimed at individual feedback from the instructor

·         Practical language tasks

·         Pronunciation sessions

 

 Intended Course outcomes:

Upon competition of the course, participants should have:

Academic responsibilities:

 

Erlendina Kristjansson, lawyer and lecturer of specialized English courses at Reykjavik University.  Ms. Kristjansson has taught English for University staff at the University of Iceland and Reykjavik University and has many years of experience in teaching specialized English course at university level and at companies

Leisure:           Excursions will be organised as an option for participants

Price:              500 EUR per person for academic programme, leisure and accomodation is not included. The Course fee is due on September 1st 2010. The invoice will be sent to you by email.
